Mono: More Popular than Java
"We have seen a real spike in Mono [application] development for the Linux desktop over the last two to three years," said RedMonk analyst Stephen O'Grady. He cited Mono applications, including the Banshee music player, the GNOME Do desktop search tool, and the Tomboy note-taking application as examples of Mono applications that have no Java counterpart equivalent in popularity.

AT&T is Picking on 4Chan - Bad Idea
For reasons unknown, AT&T is blocking access to a certain subdomain of 4chan. This completely goes against net neutrality and I'm sure the FCC wouldn't be too pleased. Also, 4Chan isn't a place you mess with. They are very good at getting even. Even if no one started anything.

Japan is Making the Terminator a Reality
A professor at the University of Tokyo has created two robots that are capable of playing baseball almost perfectly. A spokesman from the MLB association stated in an interview that "There is no room in this sport for a cyborg and there never will be". The two cyborgs responded to this by saying they would just kill everyone.

Man Turns Himself Into Borg
It appears that a member of the MicroPCTalk forum became bored with his regular human life and decided to turn himself into a Borg. He accomplished this by using parts from a Myvu Crystal, a Sony UMPC and a Motorola iDEN i425.

Award for Best HDTV Ever goes to Panasonic's TC-P54V10
It seems this TV beats out other HDTVs in every way. Especially the black level and the clarity in dark scenes. Not to mention it is very stylish.

Palm Pre Pricing Mistake
An error in one of Best Buy's recent ads has listed the $199 Palm Pre smartphone at only $99. The price however, was corrected soon after.
There must have been lots of disappointed customers that week.

Google Chrome OS
From Google:
"It's been an exciting nine months since we launched the Google Chrome browser. Already, over 30 million people use it regularly. We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we're announcing a new project that's a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It's our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be."

Microsoft to let users pick browser
By AOIFE WHITE
AP Business Writer
BRUSSELS (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. will offer computer users a choice of rival Web browsers to ward off new European Union antitrust fines, EU regulators and Microsoft said Friday.
Microsoft said its proposal, if accepted by the European Commission, would "fully address" antitrust worries over its browser and "would mark a big step forward in addressing a decade of legal issues.

Hot Chick Wallpapers Now on Palm Pre
I know, for many people, a cell phone, no matter how advanced, is just unusable without hot chick wallpapers on it. So for those of you who have been putting off buying a Palm Pre for this reason, the wait is now over.

Palm webOS 1.1 now available
It's here. Palm's first update for the WebOS. The main fix in this update is the syncing problems with iTunes introduced by Apple, as well as many other things:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/palm-webos-1-1-now-available-fixes-itunes-sync/
- Scrolling through long lists (like contacts) seems improved. We're seeing a lot less loading, and only the occasional hiccup.
- Push email now seems to actively delete (and represent the count properly) in the background.
- Folder orders for IMAP Gmail accounts are now correct. Previous versions of the software had them totally out of whack.
- The email alert sound is different -- softer.
- App load times seem a bit snappier. In fact, the whole device feels a little snappier.
- Maybe we're crazy, but there seems to be a new animation for the drop-down menus.

No More Controllers - Xbox's Project Natal
That's right, no more controllers! In the future (2010 is the current guess) we wont need controllers to interact with our xboxes. Instead, we will have a fancy device filled with motion sensors, cameras, and voice and facial recognition software.

Android Coming to Sprint
It seems that Sprint is ready for an Android phone of its' own, now that Android 1.5 is out. And that's not all. There are plenty of new phones from HTC and others on there way to the Now Network this holiday season.

MSI X-Slim - It's like a Macbook Air, only not a Mac.
Another attempt to make a laptop that can fit in your back pocket. Well not really. lol.
It's actually pretty fancy looking. I'm sure it's a lot easier to carry around than a full laptop. I know my shoulder gets kinda sore carrying a 4lb laptop around in a messenger bag all day. Though it looks like this thing would shatter if you so much as farted near it.

Technology Reduces Productivity - Governments not Immune
It seems the reason our government never gets anything done is because they're all wasting time on twitter, telling people what they're doing. Which is odd, because really, they aren't doing anything. :P

South Korea: another country in line for retarded copyright laws.
When will it end....
From Techdirt:
Looks like a bunch of things are happening in South Korea concerning copyright law there, as I keep seeing new (seemingly unrelated) stories pop up having to do with changes in South Korea. We'd already discussed how South Korea had agreed to a three strikes plan a little while, and how other oddities in the new copyright law were leading Google to forbid uploading any music to blogs for fear of running afoul of an incredibly, broadly-worded law.
